I am an Associate Professor at the LMU Munich, heading the Munich Uncertainty Quantification AI Lab and a Principal Investigator of the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML). I am also an Associated Fellow of the Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Reliable AI (relAI) and an Ellis Member.

My current research involves the development of uncertainty quantification for deep learning approaches (mostly Bayesian) and studying overparametrization in neural networks. See also my Google Scholar profile for some of my recent research.

I am committed to advancing my research field through active participation in the academic community:

  • as an action editor for JSS   and TMLR,
  • as a program chair for NeurIPS (Position Paper Track) and ProbML,
  • as (senior) area chair for several conferences such as AIStats, ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, and UAI,
  • by participating in strategic meetings such as Dagstuhl,
  • by supporting early-career researchers through exchange visits of my students, for example to Emmanuel Candès’ lab at Stanford or Emtiyaz Khan’s lab in Tokyo, and by hosting visitors in Munich.
